Hugh Laurie was born as the youngest of the four children of Dr. William George Ranald "Ran" Mundell and Patricia Laurie. He has one brother who is elder to him by six years, and he also has two elder sisters. At the 1948 London Games, his father won an Olympic gold medal in the rowing. Hugh shared a rather edgy relationship with his mother. Although he was brought up in the Scottish Presbyterian church, Hugh later became an atheist.
Having been brought up in Oxford, Hugh attended the Dragon School and later continued his studies at Eton. He completed his further studies at Selwyn College, Cambridge, and graduated with a third-class honors degree in archaeology and anthropology. Following his father’s footsteps, Hugh was an oarsman at school and university and won many laurels in the sport. He is a member of one of the oldest rowing clubs in the world, named the Leander Club.
He met Emma Thompson at the Cambridge Footlights, which he joined after he was forced to give up rowing due to a bout of glandular fever. The two were romantically involved for some time and are still good friends. Hugh married Joanne Green, a theatre administrator, in June 1989. The couple live with their two sons, Archibald (born November 1988) and William "Bill" Albert (born January 1991) and daughter Rebecca Augusta (born September 1993), in North London.
Hugh had started acting on stage when he was studying at Cambridge. In his final year at university Hugh and Emma Thompson, took their annual revue, The Cellar Tapes, to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The revue which was mainly written by Hugh along with his comedy partner, Stephen Fry, won the first Perrier Comedy Award and was later also adapted for television in 1982. This resulted in Hugh, Fry and Thompson getting selected as the writers and actors for a new sketch comedy show, named Alfresco, which ran for two seasons.
Throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s, Hugh and Fry worked together on numerous projects. In 1996, Hugh published his first novel, The Gun Seller, which went on to become a bestseller. He is presently working on the screenplay for the movie version of the novel. At the same time he is also working on his second novel The Paper Soldier. He has suffered from severe clinical depression every once in a while, and is taking continuous for the same.
Hugh has made a name for himself in both British as well as American TV world, through his fabulous performances in numerous TV shows. His prominent shows on TV include, Blackadder the Third, Blackadder Goes Forth, Jeeves and Wooster, The Legends of Treasure Island, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, Fortysomething and House M.D. and many more.
Hugh has also worked in films and some of his more renowned movies include Peter’s Friends, Sense and Sensibility¸ The Borrowers, Stuart Little, The Journal Of Edwin Carp, Stuart Little 2, The Big Empty and Monsters Vs. Aliens, and numerous others.
Hugh has also worked as a writer for television and has written for shows like, There's Nothing to Worry About!, The Laughing Prisoner, A Bit of Fry and Laurie and Dragans of New York and a few others.
For his great works in the entertainment industry Hugh has been ten different awards and fifteen nominations. For his magnificent work in the series House MD, Hugh has been nominated four times for the Emmy Awards in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (2005, 2007-2009). He has been nominated twice for the Golden Globe Awards in the category of Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama for House MD (2008, 2009). Earlier he won the same award twice under the same category and for the same show (2006, 2007).

In House MD, he plays the lead role of Dr. Gregory House, the Department Head of the department of Diagnostic Medicine. He is deficient in bedside manner and hence avoids being in direct contact with his patients. He suffers from constant physical pain due to an infarction in his right thigh, and also has to use a walking stick. Despite his behavior which is thought of as being antisocial or misanthropic by many, House has earned much respect in the medical world only because of his unusual thinking and excellent instincts. It has also brewed a n unusual level of tolerance in his colleagues, who treat him with much regard.
Hello everybody! I have exciting news for you all. Hugh Laurie who portrays the central character of George House in the show will continue to be part of the next season of the series also. I know you all must be glad to know this as George is the main character of the House M.D show, and it’s impossible to continue the show without him. Actually the speculations regarding his presence in the sixth season of House kicked off when the list of actors for this season was released without his name featuring on it.
Last time we saw Dr. George was in the fifth season finale bidding good bye to his old friends, and checking into a mental institution. Precisely due to this, all the viewers of the show are very eager to know what happens next.

The other secret about the show that I want to share is about a new character. There are rumors that Tony and Grammy Award winner Lin –Manuel Miranda is being cast as House’s psychiatrist hospital roomie. He will be there in at least two episodes in the beginning of the sixth season. Nothing has been finalized yet, through some inside sources have been revealed that producers are looking for more characters.
The show is about a team of doctors and their crazy lives, saving the lives of patients and helping them to come out of their problems and pains. Were that all doctors could be like House M.D’s team in real world as well.
Dr, George House is the main character of the show and the story moves around him and his team who together help their patients.
House M.D ranks in the top ten most viewed television series and has won many awards including a Peabody award, two Golden Globe award and three Primetime Emmy Awards and all the viewers of the show are expecting the same quality in the next season as well.
The first episode of the sixth season will be premiered on September 21, 2009.
